Clinical Nutrition
Nutrition is the cornerstone to optimal health.  What you eat on a day-to-day basis ultimately affects how your body functions.  Some foods and specific nutritional diet plans can help you heal, while others can damage your body and contribute to chronic illnesses.  Clinical nutrition also includes the use of specific nutrients or nutritional supplements to address deficiencies or to act as a treatment tool for various health concerns.

How can clinical nutrition help me?
Through the use of nutritional diet plans, like a hypoallergenic diet, a weight loss diet, or a detox diet, to name a few, a number of therapeutic outcomes can be achieved just by altering how and what we eat.  In addition, nutritional supplementation can support these therapeutic goals to alleviate symptoms and treat underlying nutrient deficiencies, and the illness itself.  As well, proper nutrition can help you treat and prevent common ailments such as high cholesterol, diabetes, and heart disease.

The number of supplements available at drugstores and health food stores can be overwhelming.  The vast majority of supplements are safe, but with the education and clinical experience of a naturopathic doctor, you can learn at what doses clinical research has proven supplements to be effective in the treatment of your specific health concerns.  Not only can this help you save some money, but can often decrease the number of supplements you might already be taking.

At the clinic you will be asked to keep a week long health and nutrition diary, which is the first step in identifying food allergies and sensitivities, digestive issues and allows the assessment of the overall quality of your daily nutrition.
